5 Major Expensive Wines Nigerian Artistes Love To Sing About.

Nigerian music artistes singing about expensive wines in their songs, like their career depends on it is not a new thing. For some of us, it's thanks to them that we even know most of the expensive wines we know today.

The one sole reason most of these artistes do it, is just to show off. While some of them can actually afford these expensive wines, the rest can barely do. They are basically just faking it till they make it.

Among the various expensive wines Nigerian music artistes love to sing about in their songs, here are the major ones...

1. Moët et Chandon Champagne
This brand of champagne is definitely the most sang about brand in Nigeria, by Nigerian music artistes. The name 'Moët' is however not "moh-wey", as is usually wrongfully pronounced. The correct pronunciation is actually "Moh-et" (as pronounced by the winery company's founder, 'Claude Moët', who was of Dutch heritage.), while the 'et', meaning 'and' in English, including 'Chandon' are pronounced as, "eh" and "Chandawn" respectivelyTogether, everything is pronounced as "Moh-et" - "eh" - "Chandawn".
It is necessary to note that contrary to what some people think, Moët & Chandon (written in French as 'Moët et Chandon') is actually not the wine itself. 'Champagne' is the name of the wine, while 'Moët & Chandon' is the name of the winery company that produces it.

Moët & Chandon is one of the world's largest expensive champagne producers and a prominent champagne house. It is also a co-owner of the luxury goods company 'Louis Vuitton • Moët-Hennessy' or simply, 'LVMH'. Moët et Chandon was established by Claude Moët in 1743 and today, the winery owns an estimated 1,150 hectares (approximately 2,800 acres) of vineyards, and produce an estimated 28 million  bottles of champagne, of various ranges yearly.
2. Dom Pérignon Champagne
Nigerian artistes won't 'let us hear word' with this wine (in the Nigerian way of speaking). Dom Pérignon, pronounced, "Dom Peh-ree-nyon" ('g' isn't pronounced), is actually a brand of vintage champagne produced by the Moët & Chandon winery company. The Dom Pérignon champagne serves as Moët & Chandon's prestige champagne.
It is named after the 'father-of-champagne'; late Dom Pérignon, who doubled as a monk and cellar master at the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter in Hautvillers, north-eastern France. He was an important quality pioneer for Champagne wine. Contrary to popular myths, he did not discover champagne. He only discovered a better method for making champagne.

3. Ace of Spades
Ace of Spades is a brand of champagne produced in five various ranges by 'Champagne Cattier' - a Champagne house started by the Cattier family. It is sold in opaque metallic bottles. Its real name is actually 'Armand de Brignac', pronounced as, "armon de breen-yak" but is otherwise known as 'Ace of Spades' based on the logo design.
'Champagne Cattier' or 'Cattier' is situated in 'Chigny-les-Roses' village in the 'Montagne de Reims' part of Champagne, France. The Cattier Family have been vineyard owners since 1763, and started to produce Champagnes under their own name in 1918. On November 5, 2014, it was announced that American rapper, Jay-Z had acquired  Armand de Brignac.
The idea for the name of the wine was actually conceived by the matriarch of the Cattier family, from a novel featuring a character named 'de Brignac' . The addition of the name 'Armand' was later made, so as to not to confuse it with the northwestern French village of 'Brignac', just outside of Champagne, France.

4. Rosé
Rosé (pronounced as "Ro-zay") is one of the oldest known types of wine. It possesses a somewhat pink colour, basically as a result of its incorporation of colours from the grape skins used to produce it. Its color can further range from various shades of pink to copper, depending on the wine-making techniques used.
Even though Rosé  is said to have originated from Champagne, France, It is not actually known when the first wine labeled as a 'rosé' was produced. Rosé is however currently produced by several winery companies in various parts of Europe and America. 'Champagne Cattier' and 'Moët & Chandon' are two out the several winery companies that produce the Rosé wine.

5. Hennessy Cognac
Hennessy Cognac (pronounced as "Kon-yak") is a variety of brandy made by 'Jas Hennessy & Co.', simply known as 'Hennessy'- a cognac house founded by Irishman Richard Hennessy in 1765, with its headquarters located in Cognac, France.

Like all other cognacs, Hennessy cognac is basically made through the subjection of wine from grapes, to double distillation or heating. Cognac is named after the town of 'Cognac' in the French region of Charante.
Hennessy sells about 50 million bottles of its cognac a year, worldwide, which is more than 40 percent of the world’s cognac, making the company the world's largest producer of cognac.

The company merged with Moët et Chandon, in 1971, to form Moët Hennessy, and then went on to merge with Louis Vuitton in 1987, which created one of the world's largest luxury brand conglomerates, 'Louis Vuitton • Moët-Hennessy' or simply, 'LVMH'. It is currently owned by Moët Hennessy, which is in turn owned by 'LVMH' and 'Diageo'.
